After her retirement, her lodgings in Leicester Street being too expensive, she moved to Strand-on-the-Green, a riverside village near Kew, where Woodward often came. Some 26 years her senior, Woodward died on 17 April 1777 after a long illness, probably cancer, through the last years of which George Anne apparently nursed him with exemplary tenderness. By his will dated 20 January 1777 and proved 18 April 1777, Woodward left her his gold watch, chain, and seals, all his plate, jewels, linen, china, and the whole of the furniture in his house in Chapel Street.

Both Woodward and Mossop, contending managers at Dublin, vied for her services, and she settled upon Mossop at Smock Alley for 176061 at a salary of 2000 guineas (she claimed).
