Simple spiral-stitched circles can lend a great modern look to your quilt, especially when you stitch them in varying sizes and connect them with straight lines. STEP 1. Start stitching a swirl, as described in Swirls (page 34), but keep the stitches about 1/4˝ apart. 1 2 3 4 STEP 2. Swirl into the inside of the first circle. When you reach the center, stitch a straight line out of the center to what will be the center of the next circle. STEP 3. From that point, swirl out and stitch another circle the size of your choice.
Stitch parallel to your original stem, about 1/4˝ away, all the way back to the swirl section. Stitch more swirls to fill in around the stem and the daisy. tip If you are having a hard time filling in the space with swirls, simply echo the previous swirls. The nice thing about swirls is that you can always add an echo or two to fill in and give your quilting a consistent look.
